[Codex Quota Suddenly Shrinks? Pro 5x User Reports a 77% Drop]
Beating AI Newsflash: The Codex community has recently reported concentrated issues with weekly quotas becoming unexpectedly insufficient. A Pro 5x user calculated based on API pricing and found their 7-day quota dropped from $674.05 to $156.95, a decrease of 76.7%. However, when testing another Plus account, they discovered only a 19.2% reduction. Another Plus user reported their quota dropping from approximately $160 to $80.
On OpenAI Codex's GitHub, someone also posted a complete local log. During the same week, on August 14, the quota was consumed at about 2.4 times the normal rate for a few hours before returning to normal, without any plan changes or quota resets during that period. The extent of the decrease varied significantly between accounts, and there were discrepancies among third-party trackers, leaving the possibility of bugs affecting certain accounts.
A similar anomaly occurred in June, when OpenAI eventually discovered that Codex's backend had been running workloads exceeding expectations, and there were also issues with usage reporting. After fixing the problem, they reset quotas for affected users. Whether this current issue is due to a uniform reduction, measurement anomalies in certain accounts, or changes in model consumption remains inconclusive at this time. [Original Link]
