[Survey: South Korea's August Inflation Rate Expected to Exceed 3% Threshold, Rising to 3.3%]
Reported by Jinse Finance, on September 1, the median forecast from a survey of 13 economists conducted by The Wall Street Journal indicates that South Korea's August CPI is expected to rise 3.3% year-on-year, higher than July's 2.8%; month-on-month growth is projected at 0.4%. Analysts at Deutsche Bank stated that higher cost pressures are still being passed on to end prices, while improved income conditions further increase demand-side inflation pressures. The Bank of Korea previously noted that part of the acceleration in August inflation is due to base effects. During the same period last year, local mobile communication operators offered discounts on communication fees, which lowered the price levels at that time. South Korea's August CPI data will be released on Wednesday. (Jin10)
