[U.S. Imposes 50% Tariff on Certain Canadian Goods]
According to a report by Cailian Press, U.S. Trade Representative Greer stated late at night on August 21 local time that Canada refused to finalize a trade agreement with the U.S. before the deadline and continues to take retaliatory measures against the U.S. Canadian Prime Minister Carney said that the progress in negotiations is still insufficient to achieve the goals set for Canadian citizens. Subsequently, U.S. Customs and Border Protection issued guidance announcing that, under Section 338, additional tariffs will be imposed on specific Canadian imports. A senior official in the Trump administration confirmed that the measure to impose a 50% tariff on certain Canadian goods will officially take effect at 12:01 AM Eastern Time on August 22.
