[Amazon Adjusts AI Strategy, Gradually Phasing Out Most Flagship Models]
BlockBeats News, July 28 – According to sources, Amazon is undergoing a comprehensive adjustment of its artificial intelligence strategy. The company is gradually phasing out many internal models, restructuring teams, and concentrating engineering resources on a new cutting-edge competitive strategy.
These adjustments follow last week's layoffs in Amazon's General Artificial Intelligence (AGI) division and the closure of its AGI lab. The lab was established in 2024 after Amazon recruited most of the team members from AI startup Adept. This restructuring indicates that Amazon is refocusing its AI strategy. The company is no longer spreading resources across multiple text, image, and video models but instead concentrating engineering talent and scarce computational resources on its highest-priority projects.
According to sources, Amazon has begun phasing out most of its internal flagship Nova models, including the high-end Premier and Omni models, the Reel video generation model, and the Canvas image generation model. Amazon's resources are gradually shifting from the existing Nova models to a new cutting-edge model development initiative.
This project is led by researcher Pieter Abbeel, who joined Amazon following its acquisition of AI robotics startup Covariant. Reportedly, this initiative, internally referred to as the "Edge Model Research" (EMR) program, has become one of Amazon's top priorities this year. [Original Link]
