[Google AI Search Penetration Rate Jumps from 15% to 43% in One Year, User Dwell Time Significantly Extended]
Deep Tide TechFlow reports that on July 28, according to TechCrunch, the latest data from market intelligence firm Similarweb shows that the appearance rate of Google AI Overviews in search results has surged from 15% to 43% over the past year. Monthly visits to AI Mode also increased from 126 million in June 2025 to 279 million in May 2026. User search behavior has undergone significant changes, with the average search length continuing to rise. Short keyword queries are being replaced by more natural conversational questions, and user dwell time on the Google platform has noticeably extended.
This trend has had a significant impact on content publishers. Although AI citations have increased more than fivefold compared to a year ago, the actual external link click-through rate remains limited. However, after ChatGPT launched its search update on May 7, the desktop web redirection rate in the U.S. jumped from 25% in March to nearly 60% by the end of May, bringing some improvement for publishers.
Analysts point out that Google is accelerating its transformation from being 'the gateway to the internet' to becoming 'the endpoint for information consumption.'
