[Video | Billionaire Mark Cuban Warns: AI Data Centers Are Being Overbuilt] On July 21, American billionaire Mark Cuban stated during an appearance on the podcast *All-In Podcast* that tech giants like Google and Meta are simultaneously channeling cash flow into AI infrastructure while borrowing hundreds of billions of dollars to build data centers, essentially betting on sustained future demand and the assumption that technological pathways will not undergo major changes. However, he cautioned that AI efficiency could still see significant breakthroughs, which would drastically reduce computing power and electricity requirements. Similar to the fiber optic industry of the past, which shifted rapidly from supply shortages to massive idle capacity, the expensive data centers being built today could face significant devaluation due to overcapacity in the future. In his view, while AI demand will indeed grow, using long-term debt to bet on markets 10 or 20 years down the line still carries substantial risk.
