After another fallout, Musk and U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent have also been exchanging barbs from a distance.

On Sunday evening local time, Musk commented on social media that Bessent is a puppet of Soros. He is a political science major who can't even learn math. A year ago, my polling results were very positive, which is why Trump values me so much.

Musk made the comment under a video of Bessent's interview shared by an X user. In the interview, Bessent stated, "The principles of DOGE are very popular, but if you look at the polls, you'll find that Elon is not popular." He believes that Musk's corporate board is not very keen on the Tesla CEO announcing his new "American Party."

In the White House brawl, Musk and Bessent's grudges

During Musk's tenure in the Trump administration, Bessent and Musk clashed multiple times.

Wall Street Insights previously mentioned that during one argument, the usually mild-mannered Bessent was completely enraged, shouting "F*** you," to which Musk loudly retorted, "Say it again, louder." Their conflict extended from the Oval Office to the hallway, startling Italian Prime Minister Meloni, who was visiting Trump at the time, and ultimately requiring aides to intervene to separate the two.

The argument escalated to personal attacks. Bessent accused Musk of exaggerating the budget cuts on DOGE and making no progress. Musk shot back that Bessent is "Soros's puppet" and mocked his past failures in hedge fund management.

The immediate trigger for the argument was a disagreement over the appointment of the IRS leader. Musk had hoped to appoint Gary Shapley as the acting head of the IRS, while Bessent favored appointing Deputy Treasury Secretary Michael Faulkender. Ultimately, Bessent's choice received Trump's support, seen as a signal of the cooling relationship between Trump and Musk.

This latest exchange between Musk and Bessent comes at a time when Musk and Trump are experiencing intense conflicts over fiscal policy, further deteriorating their relationship.

Musk publicly criticized the $33 trillion "Big Beautiful Bill" recently signed by Trump, claiming that the bill would exacerbate the U.S. debt crisis and threatening to fund primary challengers for any congressional members who support the bill.

Wall Street Insights previously mentioned that on July 5, local time, Musk announced the establishment of a new political party independent of both the Republican and Democratic parties—the "American Party," claiming that the party would represent "80% of moderate voters" in American society and seek to gain a seat in Congress through elections.

The next day, when asked about how he views American billionaire Musk's announcement of a new political party, President Trump stated that Musk "can find some fun in it," but he believes it is "absurd."
