Core DAO announced that it is coordinating an emergency hard fork to fix a vulnerability that allowed certain validator nodes to receive CORE rewards exceeding the protocol's preset limits. Core stated that the issue has been effectively contained, and 'malicious validator nodes' can no longer obtain excess rewards. This fork is classified as a forward upgrade and will not roll back the network or revoke any previously confirmed transactions, ensuring the safety of regular users' assets.
Due to this incident, several centralized exchanges have restricted deposits and withdrawals of CORE tokens. As of now, Core DAO has not disclosed the exact amount of excess issuance, details of the vulnerability, or whether any additional tokens have entered the secondary market. They have promised to release a comprehensive technical review report in the future.
