[PwC: Global Data Center Spending Expected to Reach $31.6 Trillion by 2050]
Golden Finance reports that on September 2, according to PwC, to meet the growing global demand for artificial intelligence, global data center spending is expected to reach $31.6 trillion by 2050, marking an unprecedented investment boom in human history. PwC stated in a report on Wednesday that if the adoption of artificial intelligence surpasses its "core scenario" forecast, data center spending over the next 25 years could even reach $50 trillion, far exceeding historical large-scale infrastructure projects such as railroads, the internet, and electrification. For comparison, the current U.S. GDP is approximately $30 trillion.
As consumers, businesses, and governments increasingly adopt artificial intelligence, tech giants like Microsoft and Amazon, along with smaller data center operators, are rapidly building new computing facilities worldwide. At the same time, the tech industry is striving to address growing opposition to data center construction, which could slow the pace of expansion. According to research firm Data Center Watch, at least 75 data center projects were halted or delayed in the first three months of this year due to local resident opposition, with a total value of approximately $130 billion.
