[Bitcoin 'Kimchi Premium' Reappears in the South Korean Market, Positive for a Week, Marking the Longest Streak Since May]
Odaily Planet Daily reports that Bitcoin's 'Kimchi Premium' has reappeared in the South Korean market. On September 1, the Bitcoin-KRW price on South Korea's largest cryptocurrency exchange, Upbit, was approximately 1% higher than the Bitcoin-USD price on Binance. This premium has persisted for a week, marking the longest duration since early May. At the beginning of September, Bitcoin's price was around $79,000, after briefly surpassing $80,000 in August.
In the week of August 17, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs saw a net inflow of approximately $1.92 billion, the highest single-week inflow in 10 months. In the final week of August, another $923 million flowed in. According to Upbit data, Bitcoin traded at a discount to international prices for most of the summer in the South Korean market, with the discount reaching as high as 3.1% in early June and averaging 0.25% in August.
10x Research noted that while the South Korean premium has turned positive, spot trading volumes have not increased correspondingly. (Bloomberg)
