[Injective Allegedly Pauses for About 4 Hours Due to Binary Options Exploit, Estimated $4.9 Million Stolen] X platform user Paddy-earthling disclosed that Injective paused operations for approximately 4 hours today due to a binary options exploit. The attacker exploited a previously deactivated but still registered oracle (Frontrunner) to steal around $4.9 million. The data source for this oracle had long been cleared, but the attacker created 299 markets pointing to the oracle. Since no prices could be retrieved, the 'no price refund' mechanism was triggered. The attacker exploited this mechanism's vulnerability to obtain approximately double the compensation, subsequently converting USDC into about 1,980 ETH (approximately $4.9 million), which is currently stored in an Ethereum wallet that has not conducted any transactions. Paddy-earthling noted that after the attack, Injective's official X account continued posting marketing content as usual, without mentioning the chain's suspension.
