One of the world’s first graffiti on a polar iceberg..
In December 2010, a mysterious photograph began circulating online showing graffiti painted across the side of an iceberg, its reflection visible in the freezing water below.
There was no artist, location, or explanation attached to the image. Just colorful tags and a throw-up standing out against the vast white expanse of ice.
Whether it was a carefully planned piece or simply an elaborate joke, the photograph quickly spread across blogs and online forums. Years later, it was often described as “the first graffiti on an iceberg.”
The image was striking because it brought together two seemingly opposite worlds: urban graffiti and the natural environment. That unlikely combination would later become a recurring idea in contemporary art.(Historic Vids)
