The U.S. wants to hoard 1 million Bitcoins, but if they keep dragging their feet like this, even they might find it too expensive in the end
Back in May, Congressman Nick Begich made it crystal clear: he hopes the U.S. will eventually hold about 5% of the world’s Bitcoin supply—roughly 1 million BTC—to create a digital-age 'Fort Knox.'
Three months later, the latest update on the official legislative record for H.R.8957 still shows it stuck at: referred to the House Financial Services Committee.
At $80K per BTC, 1 million Bitcoins would already be worth $80 billion on paper. If they actually tried to scoop up 1 million BTC on the open market, the marginal cost would only go higher.
Even Trump spelled it out clearly in his 2025 executive order: there are only 21 million Bitcoins, and the first country to establish a strategic reserve will have a strategic advantage.
And here we go again with what the U.S. does best: knowing something is scarce while holding endless meetings to figure out how to buy it.
In the gold era, you could take decades to stockpile. Bitcoin won’t wait for Washington to finish its process.
