The median loss per report is estimated at $10,560. Scammers are leveraging deepfake celebrity endorsements, counterfeit trading platforms, fake account balances, and falsified transaction records to lure investors into transferring funds. New York State officials advise consumers to verify the identity of promoters, the authenticity of projects, and the flow of funds, while remaining vigilant against risk signals such as promises of high returns, unsolicited invitations, and high-pressure sales tactics.
