[OCC and FDIC Plan to Clarify Bank Regulatory Rules, Linking Practices to Violations or Significant Financial Risks]
Odaily Planet Daily reports that Fox Business crypto journalist posted on the X platform stating that the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) are advancing efforts to finalize a rule that defines 'unsafe or unsound practices' in bank regulation. This term has remained undefined for years, relying primarily on the broad discretion of bank examiners. Under the rule, regulators must link practices deemed 'unsafe or unsound' to actual violations or significant financial risks, thereby reducing the likelihood of exerting pressure on banks serving legitimate clients, including crypto companies, based on vague reputational or procedural issues. This rule marks another significant step toward further dismantling 'Operation Choke Point 2.0.'
