Recently, I met with the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association and leaders from across the tourism sector to discuss priority actions for the continued development of Jamaica’s tourism industry. Our discussions focused on how we can strengthen the value created through tourism and ensure that its benefits reach more Jamaicans. This includes supporting local farmers, manufacturers, taxi operators, craft vendors and small businesses that provide goods and services to the sector. The Jamaica First agenda remains an important part of this work. We must strengthen local supply chains and create opportunities for Jamaican businesses to provide the food, goods, services and facilities required by the tourism industry. Infrastructure was also a key part of the discussion. Our roads, towns and public spaces require sustained planning and investment. The experience and expertise within the JHTA will be valuable as we continue these discussions and identify practical actions.(Andrew Holness)
