$646 Million Record! U.S. AI Companies Are Betting Big on Midterm Elections

Odaily Planet Daily reports that U.S. companies are injecting funds into political campaigns at an unprecedented pace. According to the latest data from the U.S. consumer advocacy organization Public Citizen, in the 18 months leading up to June this year, corporate donations to U.S. political campaigns have reached a record-breaking $646 million, 40% higher than corporate spending for the entire cycle of the 2024 presidential election. As the November 3rd midterm elections enter their final stages, this figure may continue to climb.
It is worth noting that this statistic does not include donations from "dark money" organizations or expenditures on state and local elections, meaning the actual political funding from corporations and wealthy individuals could be far higher than publicly disclosed data. The AI industry is also rapidly becoming a major political donor. The super PAC "Leading the Future," associated with OpenAI, has disclosed receiving $50 million, bringing AI industry-reported campaign donations to the FEC to $62 million. This PAC has already raised $140 million in donations and commitments.
Traditional industries are equally generous. Koch Inc., controlled by Republican mega-donor Charles Koch, donated $20 million in June to the family-backed political action committee "Americans for Prosperity Action." Tobacco company Reynolds American contributed $5 million through a subsidiary to Trump's super PAC MAGA Inc.
