Starknet’s quantum story so far:
→ 2018: StarkWare publishes the original STARK paper, built on post-quantum-secure foundations.
→ 2020: StarkEx becomes the first STARK-based scaling solution in production on Ethereum Mainnet.
→ 2021: Starknet becomes the first STARK-based general-purpose scaling solution in production on Ethereum Mainnet.
Since then:
→ Native Account Abstraction gives Starknet cryptographic agility, allowing accounts to adopt post-quantum signatures without a hard fork.
→ S-two, a hash-based, quantum-resistant STARK prover, has been built and launched on Starknet Mainnet.
→ A fully spec-compliant Falcon-512 post-quantum account executes a transaction on Starknet Mainnet for ~$0.06.
→ Post-Quantum Roadmap for Starknet: every remaining quantum-sensitive surface of Starknet is mapped out, from protocol commitments to legacy state and Ethereum dependencies.
→ v0.14.3: Starknet ships the first protocol-level milestone of its PQ migration, replacing Pedersen with BLAKE for OS configuration hashing.
→ Beyond Starknet, StarkWare researchers co-authored BIP-360 and designed + executed the first quantum-safe transaction on Bitcoin Mainnet, without changing Bitcoin’s consensus rules.
Now, Starknet is the chain with the least quantum migration debt, and we're targeting full post-quantum security by 2027.
