[NVIDIA Launches NVHBM Custom High-Bandwidth Memory: 30% Bandwidth Increase, 15% Power Reduction Compared to HBM4e]
According to IT Home, NVIDIA has introduced NVHBM custom high-bandwidth memory, utilizing customized HBM base dies. Compared to traditional HBM4e, it offers higher bandwidth, lower power consumption, and a smaller chip footprint. NVIDIA stated that NVHBM has been co-designed and validated with 'leading memory manufacturers,' making it a promising solution for companies developing custom chips to launch products faster compared to starting from scratch with standard HBM.
For AI accelerators, memory bandwidth is critical. NVIDIA claims that NVHBM can achieve up to a 30% bandwidth increase per memory stack compared to standard HBM4e. For AI workloads constrained by memory bandwidth, higher bandwidth translates to greater throughput—for instance, in AI inference scenarios, it can increase the number of tokens generated per second.
