[Amazon Web Services AWS Acquires DuckLabs, DuckDB Open Source Project Remains Independent] According to an official announcement from AWS, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the acquisition of Amsterdam-based DuckLabs, the development team behind the open-source analytical database DuckDB. The transaction is expected to be completed in early September 2026. The DuckLabs team will remain in Amsterdam, with founders Hannes Mühleisen and Mark Raasveldt continuing to lead the technical direction. AWS has explicitly stated that it will not acquire the DuckDB open-source project, which will continue to be governed independently by the DuckDB Foundation and remain free and open-source under the MIT license. Projects such as DuckDB, DuckLake, and Quack will not be affected. The two parties have been collaborating since 2024.
