[South Korean President Lee Jae-myung to Meet Lee Jae-yong to Discuss Semiconductor Cluster Investments in the Southwest Region by Samsung and SK]
Odaily Planet Daily News: Lee Jae-myung has already met with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won and plans to meet with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong on the 26th. Subsequently, he will also hold consecutive talks with Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun. Discussions will focus on topics such as investments in the semiconductor cluster in the southwestern region.
During the talks, the implementation plans for three major mega-projects, with a total scale of 475.5 trillion KRW, will be a key focus. These projects include semiconductors, physical AI, and AI data centers. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix had already announced plans in June to establish a semiconductor cluster in the southwest, with discussions also covering power and water supply systems.
In Lee Jae-myung's meeting with Chung Eui-sun, the construction of a 9 trillion KRW Saemangeum AI data center and robotics cluster will be a core topic, alongside discussions on hurdles such as permits, electricity, and land use. Other issues, such as exceptions to the 52-hour workweek for R&D personnel, pressure from U.S. investments, and labor-related topics, will also be addressed. (ZDNet)
