Bitcoin has evolved from being something you could mine with a home computer 17 years ago to today’s industrial-scale mining operations. I did some research, and to mine 1 BTC per day now, the investment in mining rigs, electricity, and infrastructure could easily reach 200–300 million RMB or even more.
Bitcoin turns computational power into assets, while TapeOut is trying to turn 'digital design and computational structures' into assets.
Bitcoin: Capital → ASIC → Electricity → Hash → BTC
TapeOut: NAND/LATCH → Circuit → PoD → BEM
At their core, both are doing the same thing: converting real-world resources into native on-chain assets.
The difference is that Bitcoin competes on who has more and cheaper computational power, while TapeOut competes on who can design better and more efficient digital circuits.
If Bitcoin ushered in the era of 'computational mining,' could TapeOut be opening the era of 'design mining'?
