[CME Group Launches U.S. Zinc Futures]
According to Golden Finance, on August 26, CME Group announced that the first U.S. zinc futures transaction had been completed via the CME Globex electronic trading platform. The counterparties were Glencore and Trafigura. The initial trade was executed on August 20, with a delivery month of September. CME Group stated that, as of March 2026, zinc futures contracts have been adjusted to a 'U.S. duty-paid delivery' model based on customer demand, providing the market with tools to manage fluctuations in U.S. zinc prices.
The contract, as an exchange-traded and centrally cleared risk management tool, will assist producers, consumers, and intermediaries in enhancing transparency in U.S. zinc pricing and optimizing hedging strategies. Kim Hennig, Global Head of Metals at CME Group, noted that geopolitical fragmentation is reshaping global supply chains, making regional price signals increasingly important. The U.S. zinc market is gradually developing its own pricing logic, and the new contract is designed to help participants manage risk exposure.
