[Kraken Hit by Nearly 12,000 'Dusting Attacks,' Some Customer Accounts Temporarily Inaccessible] According to Bloomberg, Kraken stated that some customers temporarily lost access to their accounts after receiving tiny amounts of cryptocurrency from wallets associated with sanctioned competitor HTX. Kraken referred to these transfers as 'dusting attacks,' suggesting their purpose might be to trigger compliance reviews by spreading sanctioned funds. Data from Etherscan and Arkham Intelligence shows that between August 17 and 24, the wallet sent nearly 12,000 small transfers to addresses linked to Kraken, most valued at just a few cents or a few dollars. Kraken reported that access to affected customer accounts has been restored, while the platform continues to withhold the related sanctioned funds as required and is cooperating with relevant authorities to mitigate the impact. HTX denied initiating these transfers and stated it is investigating the matter, citing possible causes such as misidentification of the source or malicious activity by third parties.
