**[OpenCode's $5 Discount Exploited and Removed: Half-Price First Month Offer Taken Down Due to Abuse]** Beating AI Newsflash: OpenCode has discontinued the half-price first-month discount for its Go plan. Originally priced at $5 for the first month and $10/month thereafter, new users will now start directly at $10/month. Co-founder Dax Raad explained that the introductory pricing attracted "a large amount of abuse," forcing the team to cancel the offer. This loophole was indeed easy to exploit. Back in May, a user reported on GitHub that after subscribing to the Go plan and canceling, they switched to a different payment method to re-subscribe and were charged only $5 again. They suspected that the discount eligibility wasn’t fully tied to the OpenCode account, allowing existing users to repeatedly take advantage of the new user pricing. Additionally, account sellers were reportedly bulk-registering accounts to claim the $5 discount and then reselling the credits via API transfers. Dax mentioned that the team still hopes to retain a new user discount but will need to redesign it to prevent such easy exploitation. [Original Link]
