[Estimated Scale Below $57 Million, India Plans to Issue First Tokenized Bond in September] Odaily Planet Daily News: India plans to issue its first tokenized bond in September, which will be issued by the state-owned Power Finance Corporation REC. The scale is expected to be less than 5 billion rupees, approximately $57 million. India's market regulators and central bank are jointly promoting the related pilot program, with the bond issuance and settlement to utilize blockchain technology. The bond is expected to be launched during the annual fintech conference held in Mumbai in September, initially targeting a limited number of investors. Investors will participate through wholesale central bank digital currency (CBDC) wallets and electronic securities wallets. India's depository institution is developing an electronic wallet called DEMT 2.0 to record bond holdings via distributed ledger technology. The bond will have an initial maturity of three months, and subsequent trading will be restricted to participants who simultaneously hold compatible CBDC wallets and securities wallets. A secondary market for tokenized bonds is expected to form by December, and the bonds will not be traded on traditional electronic trading platforms.
