[Canada to Announce Measures to Counter Trump Tariffs on Tuesday]
Jin10 News, August 25 – In response to the United States imposing a 50% tariff increase last Saturday on approximately $20 billion worth of annual Canadian exports, the Canadian government will announce a series of measures on Tuesday to "protect and support" domestic workers and businesses.
The Canadian Ministry of Finance stated on Monday that the Minister of Finance, Minister of Industry, Minister of Employment, and Minister of Artificial Intelligence will hold a press conference at 11:00 AM local time (11:00 PM Beijing time on Tuesday) to outline the measures.
According to sources familiar with the plan, Canada’s domestic measures will include expanding the scope of unemployment benefits. One source mentioned that officials will also introduce a loan program aimed at businesses affected by the tariffs—similar to the economic support programs implemented during the pandemic. The source added that the government is referring to this as the "One Canadian Economy Agenda."
