The API on Trump's Truth Social platform is 50 milliseconds faster than when the president posts, and people are roasting them hard for it. So, CEO Kevin McGurn went on a show to explain, but the more he explained, the more entertaining it got. The host directly asked him: Other platforms selling APIs isn’t an issue, but none of them have a shareholder who’s a former U.S. president. Did you guys ever consider, at the very least, excluding the president’s posts? His response was basically: There’s no 'insider info.' When the president posts, everyone can see it. The API just lets machines read it faster—about 50 milliseconds faster. Machines are faster than humans, which creates this advantage. Plus, platforms like Twitter and Reddit have been selling APIs for a long time. The host pressed further: But this information goes straight into algorithmic trading platforms, where systems analyze the content and decide on trades, right? CEO: That’s absolutely correct. Damn, he basically just spelled out the business model everyone was worried about. One comment from Trump about tariffs, war, crypto regulations, or even a specific company could cause asset prices to swing wildly in seconds. While regular people are still scrolling through Truth Social, high-frequency trading firms’ machines have already grabbed the API data → analyzed the semantics → assessed the impact → placed trades. 50 milliseconds means nothing to humans, but for high-frequency trading, it’s a whole different ballgame.
