Checked out River's report—turns out the U.S. holds 42% of the world's Bitcoin. Around 49.6 million American adults own BTC, which is 18.6% of the adult population, while only 28.8 million people own gold.
The U.S. has pretty much locked down the most critical layers of Bitcoin:
- 37.5% of global hash power is in the U.S.;
- U.S. publicly traded companies hold 1.24 million BTC, accounting for 92.7% of the Bitcoin held by publicly traded companies worldwide;
- Over the past 12 months, these companies bought another 510,000 BTC—three times the amount mined during the same period;
- The U.S. government itself holds about 328,000 BTC.
Honestly, I think the Republican and Democratic parties should take a closer look at these numbers. Then they'd know who they should be serving and how to serve them, instead of making noise about blocking the Clarity Act.
