The second scenario outside of coding is the emergence of AI advanced users beyond the technology field, as revealed by A16Z's official data. The fastest growing areas of Codex adoption since February are legal 108 times, sales 41 times, recruitment 41 times, marketing 26 times, and healthcare 24 times. This is what was discussed in yesterday's long article about "the market searching for the 'next coding', which may have asked the wrong question from the beginning". The next scenario that many people imagine is the emergence of a product like Coding Agent with clear boundaries, extremely fast growth, huge revenue scale, and can be quickly recognized by the capital market. However, the structure and software development of the non coding world are completely different.
The second growth engine of AI is likely to not manifest as a neat 'second coding', but as hundreds of business processes simultaneously shifting from manual operations to AI execution. Therefore, the absence of the next mega scenario does not mean that AI is no longer viable. AI can still create enormous economic value through extensive and gradual productivity improvements.
But for the current capital market, simply proving that 'many people are using AI' is no longer enough. Next, it must be proven that:
AI can complete real work, and enterprises are willing to pay based on usage and results;
Non tech industries can generate sustained terminal demand; Productivity improvement can enter into profit margins and free cash flow;
The next driving force lies in whether these dispersed scenarios can converge into sufficiently large revenue, cash flow, and productivity before the significant slowdown of Coding's first leg, truly becoming the second leg of AI growth. This is currently the most critical time difference in the AI application layer.
As mentioned earlier, I tend to prioritize quick succession from baseline situations, but the market may still be concerned and skeptical until more evidence is seen.
