According to Yonhap News, as of the end of July 2026, South Korea's 5 major crypto exchanges had a total of 566,352 foreign accounts, but only 517 accounts completed Know Your Customer (KYC) verification, accounting for just 0.09%. Active accounts for the month totaled only 90, making up 0.01%. Among them, Bithumb had the highest number of foreign accounts at 484,846, but currently has 0 active accounts. Foreigners still hold approximately 2.58 billion KRW in deposits and 30.36 billion KRW in crypto assets across these exchanges. The report suggests that most of these accounts were likely registered before South Korea tightened restrictions on foreign KRW transactions in 2021.
