The crypto industry is going all out building payment infrastructure for Agents, but traditional payment systems still haven’t realized: the next generation of users might not even be human. Someone tried using Claude Pro, but binding domestic Visa or Mastercard to Google Pay failed across the board. The issue wasn’t that the card lacked funds, but rather that the payment system could identify the card’s issuing region and BIN info, blocking it outright. Eventually, people discovered a workaround: In-app purchases via Google Play work, but directly binding the card to Google Pay doesn’t. This small issue actually reveals a much bigger problem: Today’s payment systems assume users are *human*. Name, region, bank card, identity verification—layer upon layer of checks. But in the future Agent era, an AI Agent might automatically purchase APIs, subscribe to software, pay for computing power, or trade assets every day. It won’t have a credit card, an ID, or sit in front of a computer entering verification codes. So, who’s going to give Agents a native payment identity? This is exactly why things like Binance Agent OS and Coinbase Agent MCP are starting to emerge. The crypto industry is working to establish a new financial identity system for Agents and embodied intelligence: Agents can hold assets; can initiate payments; can authorize transactions; can settle automatically.
