[HMRC Issues 81,000 Crypto Tax Warning Letters in the Past 12 Months, Up 25%] Odaily Planet Daily reports that the UK’s HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has issued 81,000 warning letters to cryptocurrency investors suspected of tax evasion over the past 12 months, a 25% increase compared to approximately 65,000 letters issued in the previous year. These letters aim to prompt recipients to disclose unpaid taxes before HMRC initiates formal investigations. Activities such as cryptocurrency exchanges, using tokens to purchase goods or services, and gifting tokens to others may constitute taxable events. Income generated from lending, staking, and similar activities may be subject to income tax rules. UK residents are generally required to pay taxes on relevant income and gains worldwide. Rules set to be implemented in April 2027 will apply a no-gain, no-loss treatment to qualifying crypto lending and automated market-making arrangements until an economic disposal occurs, which is expected to impact approximately 700,000 individuals. Under the Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework, service providers will be required to submit transaction data for 2026, with the reporting period spanning from January 1 to May 31, 2027. It is anticipated that 52 jurisdictions will exchange related data in 2027, with an additional 15 jurisdictions joining in 2028. (Bitcoin.com News)
