Talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not always within reach. Every Jamaican child deserves the chance to discover their ability, develop their talent and build a future from it. That is the work Alpha and the Sisters of Mercy have carried out for generations. They saw potential in children, nurtured their talents, provided discipline and training, and created opportunities for them to grow. The Alpha Mercy Historical Centre now gives us another way to connect with that legacy. Through the preservation of artifacts, documents, stories and other important materials, future generations will be able to experience and learn from the history of Alpha and its contribution to Jamaica. Our history is part of our national wealth. When we preserve our buildings, institutions, traditions and stories, we are preserving the things that help us understand who we are and where we come from. I am proud to see the Alpha Mercy Historical Centre helping to keep this important part of our Jamaican story alive.(Andrew Holness)
