[Binance Accused of Allowing EU User Registrations Without MiCA License]
Odaily Planet Daily News: On August 19, cryptocurrency analysis platform Sandmark discovered that Binance still allows users from EU countries such as Austria, France, Germany, Spain, and Belgium to register and complete identity verification, whether using or not using a VPN. Verified accounts did not receive warnings about the lack of a MiCA license and could still access services, including receiving cryptocurrency deposits. The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) required unauthorized entities to cease opening accounts for EU customers, marketing services, and soliciting clients by July 1.
After withdrawing its MiCA license application submitted to Greek regulators, Binance stated that it is still working on obtaining the relevant licenses to ensure long-term compliance in Europe and claimed to have taken measures to align its products and services with applicable legal and regulatory frameworks. European regulators have begun penalizing MiCA violations. On August 14, the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA) fined cryptocurrency exchange platform Bitpanda €70,000 for notification and marketing violations. (Bitcoin.com News)
