At the White House crypto executives meeting, Trump stated that CFTC Chairman Michael Selig is pushing for Hyperliquid to enter the U.S. market in full compliance. This paves a regulatory path for offshore perpetual contract platforms to operate in the U.S.
Hyperliquid is a Layer-1 blockchain integrated with a DEX. Its perpetual contracts have no expiration date, support leverage, and its on-chain structure bypasses intermediary institutions preset by U.S. derivatives rules. The CFTC has previously approved similar products from Coinbase Derivatives and Kalshi, setting a precedent. Following the announcement, $HYPE surged 23%, triggering over $3 billion in short liquidations.
The 'Clarity Act' remains stalled in Congress, while the SEC and CFTC are independently advancing rulemaking. The CFTC's Innovation Advisory Committee will hold a meeting on Thursday, making subsequent regulatory actions a key focus to watch.
