[Video | CME CEO Complains: Decentralized Finance Platforms Like trade.xyz Are Disrupting the U.S. Market]
CME CEO Terry Duffy stated at the CFTC Innovation Advisory Committee meeting that perpetual contracts and 24/7 trading have become trends that traditional finance can no longer ignore. He pointed out that decentralized finance platforms like trade.xyz are directly impacting the U.S. market through round-the-clock trading. Even though these platforms are theoretically not allowed to serve U.S. users, investors can still access them through various means.
Duffy argued that instead of blocking innovation overseas, U.S.-based institutions should also be allowed to launch perpetual contracts and 24/7 markets. He further criticized the current regulatory environment for having a "double standard": some computational prediction markets have already been approved, while similar CME products remain stuck in lengthy reviews.
Duffy believes that the U.S. needs to create a fairer competitive environment for both traditional exchanges and emerging platforms while protecting consumers. Otherwise, innovation will continue to flow overseas.
