According to CriptoNoticias, the Dominican Republic's Law No. 74-25 will take effect in August 2026. Article 240 explicitly mentions cryptocurrencies, tokens, and NFTs, stating that using digital assets to carry out pyramid schemes can constitute a crime. However, it does not establish a comprehensive regulatory framework for the everyday use of assets like Bitcoin.
Buying, holding, receiving, or directly using Bitcoin for payments does not constitute a crime under the relevant provisions. Two bills aimed at establishing regulations, oversight, and a National Digital Assets and Crypto Assets Committee are still stalled in the House of Representatives.
