CME CEO Terrence Duffy stated at the CFTC Innovation Advisory Committee meeting that certain prediction market contracts carry risks of manipulation and called for stricter regulation. He pointed out that some self-certified contracts, especially those involving political events, could harm the industry's reputation. CFTC Chairman Michael Selig responded by saying that the products mentioned by Duffy have not been launched in the U.S. market. The two also discussed prediction market regulation, with Selig noting that the CFTC will push forward adjustments to event contract rules and strengthen consumer protection measures. Later, Duffy and Kalshi COO Luana Lopes Lara debated over market manipulation and regulatory capabilities. Currently, there is still controversy over the jurisdiction of prediction market regulation, with federal regulators and state agencies competing over the scope of regulation for event contracts like sports.
