Kraken's parent company, Payward, is exploring the possibility of applying for a banking license outside the U.S. to expand its trading, banking services, and asset management business. Payward and Kraken Co-CEO Dave Ripley stated that the company aims to become a 'full-service bank' in certain markets, offering payments, fund transfers, lending, yield products, and custody services. Currently, Payward operates Kraken Financial, a Wyoming-chartered institution that provides digital asset custody and deposit account services for institutional clients. However, it is not yet authorized to offer fiat loans to customers or covered by FDIC deposit insurance. Ripley mentioned that obtaining traditional banking qualifications would help the company provide financial products to more users, potentially including mortgage services in the future.
