After weak Q2 performance was exposed, OpenAI's CFO urgently stepped in to 'put out the fire.' According to CNBC's report, the CFO addressed employees in an all-hands meeting yesterday:
1. OpenAI 'will become a publicly listed company by 2027,' but if 'business accelerates further,' the IPO could happen sooner.
2. Meanwhile, Friar shared a set of fresh Q3 data with employees, showing a clear rebound in growth compared to Q2—this was the key message of the meeting:
1) So far in Q3, OpenAI's overall annual recurring revenue (ARR) has grown by 35%.
2) Enterprise ARR has grown by 50%.
3) Weekly active users for AI programming and productivity tools have reached 20 million.
OpenAI had previously told investors that growth had picked up in Q3 following the release of a batch of new models in July. The data disclosed this time serves as concrete evidence of that claim.
By the way, did OpenAI's CFO see my tweet from yesterday and then turn around to tell everyone in the all-hands meeting: Stop focusing on Q2 revenue, it’s not important—look at Q3, we’re back to rapid growth.
