["Fed's Mouthpiece": U.S. Treasury Expands Treasury Buyback Program, Possibly Due to Officials' Concerns Over Market Trends]
Odaily Planet Daily News - "Fed's Mouthpiece" Nick Timiraos wrote that the U.S. Treasury recently announced it will increase the single buyback limit for long-term nominal coupon Treasury bonds from $2 billion to at least $4 billion starting September 9. Timiraos, citing interest rate strategists, noted that the timing of this decision is noteworthy: it comes roughly two weeks after the Treasury's last quarterly refinancing announcement and just hours before the Treasury was originally scheduled to issue $16 billion in 20-year Treasury bonds. This unconventional timing may indicate that Treasury officials "do not like what is happening in the market."
