[Survey: U.S. Youth Increasingly Hostile Toward AI, Fear of Unemployment]
Deep Tide TechFlow reports that on August 19, a survey conducted by the Pew Research Center revealed that the youngest segment of the U.S. workforce is growing increasingly skeptical of artificial intelligence, fearing that advancements in this technology could lead to widespread unemployment. Since the Pew Research Center began this survey in 2021, adults under 30 have, for the first time, expressed more concern than excitement about AI. This result aligns with trends across other age groups, but the youngest demographic has undergone a significant shift—from initially being the most optimistic about AI's potential to becoming one of the groups most doubtful of the technology. The survey also found that nearly 75% of adults under 30 believe this technology will reduce job opportunities, up from 61% two years ago. These findings further underscore the complex relationship between young Americans and AI. They are among the most proficient users of this technology, yet at the same time, AI threatens entry-level positions that traditionally serve as stepping stones for their entry into the workforce.
