[Analyst: U.S.-made semiconductors will command a premium, Korean memory manufacturers need to accelerate U.S. plant construction] Odaily Planet Daily News - Citrini analyst Jukan posted on the X platform stating that in the future, U.S.-made semiconductor products may gain market premiums due to the supply chain stability advantage. Korean memory chip companies need to address this trend by building wafer fabs in the U.S. Currently, U.S.-made optical module products have already started to reflect premiums. For example, optical communication company AAOI has stated that optical modules produced in the U.S. can achieve higher prices. Additionally, U.S. hyperscalers are willing to pay extra premiums for U.S.-made Micron DRAM. Jukan believes that the price advantage of U.S.-made chips is not solely derived from the products themselves but reflects the value of supply chain stability and supply assurance. Against the backdrop of ongoing adjustments in the global semiconductor supply chain, companies and customers are increasingly prioritizing localized production capabilities to mitigate geopolitical risks and supply disruptions. For Korean memory manufacturers, Korean companies need to actively advance the construction of U.S.-based production capacity, and this trend has already begun to emerge. For instance, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won has previously discussed plans to build front-end wafer manufacturing facilities for memory chips in the U.S. With the growth in storage demand driven by AI infrastructure development and the continued regionalization of the global supply chain, U.S.-made semiconductors may establish a new pricing system. Chip companies with U.S.-based production capacity will gain additional advantages in future market competition.
