[Due to Surging Demand, Samsung Foundry Prices Reportedly Increase by Up to 15%] According to DeepTech TechFlow, on August 19, two insiders revealed that Samsung Electronics has raised the prices for some advanced chip foundry services for new orders by up to 15%, driven by soaring demand for AI chips, which has led to tightening foundry capacity. One of the sources disclosed that the SF4 prices for customers in mainland China and the United States have risen by 10% to 15% compared to last month, while prices for customers in Taiwan, home to TSMC, have increased by 5% to 10%. This price hike marks a turning point for Samsung's foundry business. Industry estimates suggest that this segment has been operating at a loss since 2022. Despite Samsung achieving record-breaking profits fueled by surging memory chip prices, its foundry division has struggled to narrow the gap with TSMC. Insiders stated that Samsung had already raised the prices for chips manufactured using its 4nm process (SF4) in July. Prices for wafers produced using its 5nm process (SF5) have increased by 10% to 15%, while wafers made with the older 8nm process have seen nearly a 10% price hike. Samsung declined to comment, stating that the company does not disclose specific details regarding operational matters. (Jin10)
