[Vietnam Plans to Advance Regulated Cryptocurrency Market Pilot, First Platforms Expected to Launch in Q3 2026]
According to The Business Times, Vietnam plans to advance a regulated cryptocurrency market pilot to address anti-money laundering regulatory deficiencies, with the first platforms expected to launch in Q3 2026. Since June 2023, Vietnam has been placed on the Financial Action Task Force's gray list and needs to improve in areas such as virtual asset regulation. Vietnam is the third-largest cryptocurrency market in the Asia-Pacific region, with over $200 billion worth of cryptocurrency received in the 12 months leading up to June 2025. The pilot market requires transactions to be registered and tracked through licensed virtual asset service providers. Prospective licensed operators must meet requirements including a minimum paid-up capital of 10 trillion Vietnamese dong, operational processes, and information security standards.
