[Significant Profit Growth for South Korean Listed Companies in the First Half of the Year, Semiconductor Sector Shines]
According to Deep Tide TechFlow, on August 19, data from the Korea Exchange showed that in the first half of this year, the improved performance of the non-ferrous metals and electronics/electrical industries significantly boosted the profitability of South Korean listed companies. Excluding the financial sector, the combined operating revenue of 634 listed companies on South Korea's main board market (KOSPI) reached 2,000.1261 trillion KRW, a year-on-year increase of 28.84%; operating profit was 388.1532 trillion KRW, a year-on-year increase of 254.15%; and net profit was 386.6740 trillion KRW, a year-on-year increase of 333.30%.
Leading semiconductor companies were the primary drivers of this substantial improvement in performance. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix reported a combined operating revenue of 437.27 trillion KRW in the first half of the year, accounting for 21.86% of the total revenue of all companies. The two companies' combined operating profit was 244.88 trillion KRW, and net profit was 253.12 trillion KRW.
Excluding these two companies, the remaining 632 companies saw a year-on-year increase of 15.01% in operating revenue, with operating profit and net profit growing by 75.61% and 119.68%, respectively.
