Another project got hacked again! Maya Protocol hit by a 'reverse anti-theft mechanism' exploit, CACAO plummets 88%
The cross-chain DEX protocol Maya Protocol (MAYAChain) suffered an extremely complex exploit between August 18 and 19, 2026. Its native token CACAO faced a massive sell-off and price crash.
**Asset Losses:** Hackers extracted approximately 20.83 BTC and a staggering 48.87 million CACAO (direct asset extraction worth about $1.36 million, with the protocol's total combined losses and impact estimated around $1.7 million). The hackers quickly swapped large amounts of CACAO for high-liquidity assets like BTC, ETH, and RUNE to escape.
**88.7% Crash:** Due to the massive sell-off, CACAO's price collapsed from around $0.115 to $0.013 in a short period, nearly draining the liquidity pools.
CACAO serves as the core settlement token, fee payment medium, and bond collateral for validator nodes (Nodes) in the ecosystem, with a total supply of about 100 million tokens. This attack dealt a heavy blow to the protocol's core economic foundation.
