[US Media: The US Considers Reducing Military Presence in the Gulf Region After the War Ends]
The Washington Post reported that, according to eight individuals including officials and other informed sources, the Pentagon is evaluating its military presence in the Middle East, which preliminarily suggests that the Iran war could reshape the US presence in the region.
Two individuals familiar with the analysis stated that one of the key areas being assessed by the US Department of Defense is whether to withdraw troops from the Persian Gulf. For months, the extensive overseas military bases of the US in the region have been battered by Iranian strikes. The damage to these facilities has provided the Pentagon with a rare opportunity to reconsider its presence in the region.
The Pentagon has indicated that it may not rebuild the bases in their pre-war state. Officials stated that Hegseth has not yet ordered a formal review of the posture of US forces in the region. This analysis is considered "prudent planning" and could ultimately serve as a reference for the government in deciding whether to rebuild the bases damaged during the war.
