Most people don't wait until their roof is leaking to replace it. They do it before the storm arrives. That's the thinking behind the post-quantum work underway on Aptos.
Today's cryptography still works. But one day, powerful enough quantum computers could challenge the cryptography that protects digital assets across the industry.
Waiting until that day arrives would be too late, so the groundwork is being laid now.
AIP-137, introduced by @AptosLabs' @alinush, is a first step: an optional, NIST-standardized post-quantum signature for Aptos accounts. Opt-in by design, adopted over time.
Not by forcing anyone to migrate. Not by replacing what already works. It can even run in hybrid mode, pairing the post-quantum signature with a classically-secure one like Ed25519.
Post-quantum security is a full-stack effort. This is where it starts.(Aptos)
